Al-Hout: “A general amnesty is a national necessity to close an open wound.”
Fady Mahouly
Representative Imad Al-Hout wrote on the “X” platform: “Some want to turn the general amnesty law proposal into an arena for political debate and scoring points, while what is required is to approach it in a spirit of national responsibility and fairness.
Today, I participate in the meeting in the office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Elias Bou Saab, in the spirit of dialogue, in an effort to reach a balanced and agreed-upon text that facilitates the adoption of the law and ensures unity of standards and equality before it.
This file must not remain a prisoner of the ambiguities and errors that accompanied the arrests, investigations and trials, especially against a segment of the Islamist detainees whose suffering and the suffering of their families have been prolonged.
A general amnesty is an exceptional measure, but today it is a national necessity to close an open wound and consolidate societal reconciliation in a circumstance in which the country needs justice, not excesses.”
